Interior Service - Zone 1
Our Interior Service (Zone 1) protects the area from the voids in the walls that frame the home to all areas contained within these walls.
Insects come to a home seeking food, water or harborage (shelter). So if you feed them on the outside, there is no reason for them to come inside. The purpose of Zones 2 and 3 in our system is to feed and control insects outside of your home.
When insects do enter your home they do so in three different ways:
- They are on you or your personal items (e.g., inside a grocery bag) and you carry them inside your home.
- They enter through a crack in the foundation and come up through the walls (between the wall studs).
- There is a landscape bridge (for example, tree branch) that comes into physical contact with your home, in which case the pests migrate to the home and the inside of the walls.
It is difficult to completely avoid personally carrying the insects inside (#1 above), since inspecting yourself and your personal items every time you enter your home is just not realistic. Step 2 (Environmental Modification) of our seven step treatment program is focused on trying to prevent pest from entering through the foundation or via a landscape bridge to your home (#2 and #3 above). However, it may not always be possible to eliminate all possible pest entry-points or landscape bridges. For these reasons, we must assume that some pests will by-pass any exterior pest controls that have been placed around the perimeter of your home and on the lawn.
Once inside your home, pests can move around the home in the voids between the exterior walls and the interior drywall. Protected and unseen, these pests are free to seek out food and water.
A traditional approach to interior pest-control is baseboard spraying, which has numerous problems as described below. We use a combination of void injection and baiting (both as described below) as alternatives to baseboard spraying.
Problems with Baseboard Spraying
Baseboard spraying is a common treatment method for providing interior pest control. When performing baseboard spraying, a technician walks along the interior perimeter of each room with a spray tank and a spray wand and sprays liquid pesticides onto baseboards (and often other surfaces) of your home.
Here are some of the many problems with baseboard spraying:
- Baseboard spraying is an imprecise technique that disperses toxic chemicals in the air you breathe and deposits chemical pesticide residue on the surfaces in the the room that you, children, and pets are likely to touch.
- Baseboard spraying rarely eliminates the colony, since the deadly poison frequently kills foraging worker pests before they can return to feed the colony. Overall, baseboard spraying kills only the 1% to 10% of the pests in a colony that are out foraging for food, leaving the rest of the colony intact and ready to take their place.
- Pests inside of wall voids will not be killed with baseboard spraying since they are protected from direct contact with the baseboard-sprayed pesticides. In addition, in many cases, the pests can detect the presence of baseboard-sprayed pesticides and simply avoid them.
Treatment — Void Injection
Xact Impact Natural Pest Management uses void injection to treat enclosed spaces (voids) where pests may live, hide and travel.
What is the Treatment?
Your Xact Impact Natural Pest Management Service Technician will identify access points into the wall voids and other voids (such as spaces within equipment housings, false flooring, suspended ceilings) and will use a special machine to place a layer of electrostatically charged dust in each void. We use a variety of naturally occurring low-toxicity (to humans and pets) boric acid or limestone-based dusts that are highly effective against pests. Since the dust is injected into voids, it is not accessible to food, fingers or paws inside of your home. This dust also poses no threat to your walls, the foundation of your home or any electrical wiring or plumbing that might share the void.
How Does it Work?
Void-injected dust controls pests in several ways:
- Some pests are repelled by the dust and thus avoid living or traveling through dusted void areas within a structure. In other words, the void becomes uninhabitable or impassable so you have denied the pests a primary harborage (shelter) location.
- Other pests walk through or near the dust that has been electrostatically charged so it sticks to them. These pests will then groom themselves and either are harmed by the compound or die of dehydration when the microscopic edges of dust powder cut into their exoskeleton. Insects such as cockroaches will suffocate when the dust clogs up their exterior sphericals (breathing holes).
Benefits
Unlike alternative methods that attempt to kill pests where they hide, void injection is a highly precise technique, placing low-toxicity dust exactly where it is needed. In addition, since the dust is placed into a void there is no drift or other contamination in your home or living areas. As such, void injection is a much safer alternative to techniques such as baseboard spraying where it is very likely that aerosolized pesticide will enter the breathable air and coat exposed surfaces (for example, kitchen counters, bedding, etc.) in the home where people and pets reside. Because most voids are dark and dry, which promotes the longevity of the dust, our void-injection treatment is long-lasting, thus reducing the need for retreatment.
Treatment — Interior Baiting
Baits are a combination of one or more types of foods (to which pests are attracted) and a non-repellent substance that is toxic to pests (and, in our case, baits that have little or no toxicity to people or pets). Baiting is a very precise treatment method for placing pest-control products where they are available to pests but not to people and pets.
What is the Treatment?
Unlike other pest-control companies that might use baiting, Xact Impact Natural Pest Management uses a variety of low-toxicity baits, some of which our personnel assisted in co-developing over the past decade. We put all of our baits inside of proprietary bait stations, making them completely inaccessible to little fingers or paws. Some companies that use baiting apply the baits directly to surfaces in and around your home. This approach is messy and can stain surfaces. In addition, since the baits are not inside a protected bait station, non-target animals can get access to the baits. Also, baits that are not protected can become contaminated and lose their potency more quickly due to direct exposure to the surrounding elements.
How Does It Work?
The goal of baiting is to entice foraging pests to feed on the bait and not go wondering around your home looking for food or water. Upon feeding they either die or return to their nest and feed the bait to other members of the colony including the queen. For example, in the case of many ants species, each foraging ant feeds eight to ten ants in the colony. All the pests that eat the bait die and the colony is rendered ineffective.
Benefits
Xact Impact Natural Pest Management has substantial expertise performing interior bating. Here are three benefits of how we perform baiting:
- After years of experience performing interior baiting, Xact Impact Natural Pest Management Service Technicians know exactly where to strategically place bait stations within your home to obtain maximum results. Consider this, just randomly placing bait stations in your home can yield poor performance if you are not lucky enough to place them in areas where pests are likely to visit.
- Many pests change their preference for baits over time (for example, at one time they prefer sweet food and at another time they may prefer protein-based food). Knowing which baits or combination of baits to use and when to use them is something that only time and experience will teach. When it comes to baiting, you can trust Xact Impact Natural Pest Management's years of experience.
- We use a completely natural pest-management system, which means we do not use ANY synthetic poisons. Baits and the baiting process will be harmed if the baits are contaminated by coming into contact with synthetic poisons or cleaners used to remove synthetic poisons (by washing or cleaning hands). There are pest-control companies that use baiting in combination with synthetic chemicals. It is highly likely that any baiting provided by these companies has been compromised and will likely have significantly reduced effectiveness. In many cases, these pest control companies store their baits in close proximity to their liquid chemicals inside of their trucks, so the baits may be compromised even before they enter your home! With Xact Impact Natural Pest Management, you get pure, effective baiting.
Treatment— Interior Flea Treatment
Xact Impact Natural Pest Management also offers a special treatment service for interior flea control. If you have pets, you probably are familiar with the problems of fleas in your home. If you you want to avoid placing chemicals in or on your pets, our interior flea treatment is perfect for you.
What is the Treatment?
An Xact Impact Natural Pest Management Service Technician will apply a naturally occurring powder to all floor areas of your home using our careful application method. Depending on the size of your home, the treatment usually takes between one and two hours to complete.
How Does it Work?
The powder that we use acts as a desiccant when any of the microscopic particles of the negatively charged powder come in contact with the flea larvae, the pupa or the egg. After 2-6 weeks we have complete control over the fleas in your home. Even as pets go outside and bring in new fleas, your home will stay protected because the powder remains deep in the carpets and hardwood crevices.
Benefits
There are many benefits to our flea treatment service. Here are some of the most important:
- It is 100% guaranteed for one year. We will retreat your home at no cost if there is a recurring problem within one year of your initial treatment.
- If you have multiple pets in your home our treatment is likely your most cost-effective method of eliminating fleas.
- If you don't want to place chemicals on your animals, our flea-treatment service is for you.
